Growing Traditions: Honoring Our Roots While Embracing the Future
At Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard, every season is a new chapter in a story that’s been unfolding for generations. While we continue to grow, improve, and add new experiences, one thing never changes: our commitment to family, tradition, and the land we’ve called home for more than 50 years.
A 46-Year Tradition
We were touched by a note from long-time visitors Larry and Darlene Rowlett, who first discovered our orchard when Yvonne Stepp invited them to come out and pick apples. “Bring a picnic,” she said. “We have picnic tables!”
That simple invitation sparked what is now a 46-year tradition. The Rowlett’s very first trip was when their son was still on the way—and now, two generations later, their grandchildren carry on the family tradition of visiting Stepp’s each fall. Stories like theirs remind us how the orchard is woven into the memories of so many families.

Tradition and Innovation
Some things remain timeless: the fresh mountain air, the joy of picking apples right from the tree, and yes, those picnic tables still waiting for families to gather. But we’ve also worked hard to continue improving, so that every guest can enjoy a mix of tradition and new experiences.
Today, you can still bring your own picnic—or you can grab a freshly made sandwich from Mini Batch Bakery during the week or enjoy a rotating lineup of food trucks on weekends. Families can still take in our wide-open spaces, but now they can also enjoy activities like the apple cannon, jump pad, and our corn maze.

Rooted in Family, Growing for the Future
As a fourth-generation family farm, we’re proud to stay rooted in the values that began it all: hard work, hospitality, and love for the land. At the same time, we’re committed to continuously improving the experience for our guests, making it more memorable with every visit.
This season, whether you’re picking apples, arranging sunflowers, or sharing cider donuts together, we invite you to be part of a tradition that’s both deeply rooted and always growing!
